DELTA TWP. - A veteran firefighter from Kent County will take over as fire chief in Delta Township on Dec. 10.

Gregg Ginebaugh

Gregg Ginebaugh, deputy fire chief in the Grand Rapids suburb of Kentwood, was picked from a field of 46 qualified candidates, Delta Township officials said.

He succeeds John Clark, who resigned in July after about seven years in the post.

Ginebaugh has spent more than three decades with the Kentwood Fire Department, serving as firefighter, fire inspector, fire marshal, lieutenant, captain and deputy chief. He has a bachelor's degree from Lake Superior State University and is a certified professional emergency manager, township officials said.

Ginebaugh was among six finalists who were interviewed for the fire chief job, Township Manager Brian Reed said. He will earn about $91,000 a year.
