AGP soy processing plant in Aberdeen remains on schedule

AGP remains on schedule to open a new soybean processing plant in South Dakota next year despite demand concerns.

Merchandising manager Adam Piper says the crushing facility in Aberdeen should be at full production by next harvest.

“We’re going to remain optimistic about where we’re at today, and we understand what the Administration is trying to get done (and) support that.  But we would like to have a timely and expedited process (to resolving the trade disputes) at this point.”

He anticipates a large carryout because of lost demand mainly from China, and a huge U.S. soybean crop this fall.

Still, Piper views the Upper Midwest as a valuable hub.

“We know the Dakotas are a good spot for soybean production and continues to grow.  But also utilities, in the area.  And we wanted to find a place that wanted to embrace a processing facility such as ours.”

Piper tells Brownfield the Aberdeen plant will be AGP’s second-largest facility, processing more than 45 million bushels of soybeans annually.
