Early winter turning back to late fall weather across Midwest

An ag meteorologist says a return to autumn weather is in store for parts of the Midwest dealing with winter conditions.

Greg Soulje tells Brownfield November snow as far south as Oklahoma and Texas is a trademark of a strengthening El Nino.

“We usually kind of fast-forward to an earlier start to winter, but as you get deeper into autumn and almost up to the actual start of the winter season, we reverse the whole weather pattern.  Kind of take those temperatures you would experience in October and November and displace them into the months of December and January.”

He’s forecasting milder weather for many farmers struggling to finish harvest, tillage, and fall fertilizer applications.

“Dryer days, (and) I’m sure the frost and freeze into the ground will help support some heavier equipment with the last of harvest.  But at the same time, we still have a lot of fall weather still to go across the area.”

Soulje expects fall-like weather to continue through Thanksgiving and possibly well into December.
