CHARLOTTE - An 11-year-old girl was injured Monday afternoon when a car struck the bike she was riding, a police department official said.

The collision happened around 5:20 p.m. on Lawrence Avenue near the intersection of Clinton Street in Charlotte, Sgt. Paul Brentar of the Charlotte Police Department said.

The girl was transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, he said Tuesday morning.

"I do not know the extent of her injuries or her status," he said.

Banter said he did not know if the driver of the car sustained any injuries in the crash, or if there were other people in the vehicle.

Police are still investigating the incident, he said.

"Nothing has been determined yet as to fault," Banter said.

That section of Lawrence Avenue was closed Monday evening until just after 9 p.m.
