USGC returns from Mexico, says it’s back to business as usual

U.S. Grains Council leaders just returned from a trade mission to Mexico and Tom Sleight says it’s back to business as usual now that negotiations for the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement are wrapped up.

Sleight, president and CEO, says it was important for the USGC to meet with customers in Mexico.

“We thought it was a good time to touch base again and that’s exactly what we found,” he says. “Customers are relieved, relieved that negotiations are done.”

He tells Brownfield Mexico is a top importer of U.S. grains and has the potential to increase ethanol use.

“Mexico is our number one customer for corn, our number two customer for sorghum, number one customer for DDGs, number one customer for barley, and is growing  market for our ethanol,” he says.

The U.S., Canada, and Mexico still must ratify the USMCA.

Sleight spoke to Brownfield at the 2018 NAFB Convention in Kansas City.

The delegation included leaders from the U.S. Grains Council, National Corn Growers Association, National Sorghum Producers, United Sorghum Checkoff Program, and the National Barley Growers Association.
