Chimney fire contained on Friday at Re-Store Shop
No flames could be seen as the fire was contained within the chimney, however smoke was seen pouring out the chimney stack.
A small chimney fire broke out at the Re-Store shop, 2200 Sudderth Drive, at the corner of Country Club and Sudderth drives around 11 a.m. Friday.
Ruidoso fire and police departments along with EMS personnel responded to the fire.
"The fire was contained in the chimney and was put out just minutes after the fire department arrived on scene," Ruidoso Public Information Officer Kerry Gladden said.
No flames could be seen as the fire was contained within the chimney, however smoke was seen pouring out the chimney stack. The Ruidoso Fire Department made certain the fire had not spread beyond the chimney and carefully checked the store's roof for any signs of the fire having spread.
With temperatures dropping into the mid 30s, it is that time of the year again when people seek warmth from fire places and pot-belly stoves.
This incident is just a small reminder why it is important to maintain fireplaces and chimneys. Pine needles, leaves, animal's nest, and other debris accumulate over the summer months making it a fire hazard. Making certain that chimneys are clear of obstructions within the chimney can prevent unintentional fires from occurring in a chimney.
Emergency crews were still on scene at 12:30 p.m. Friday. There were no injuries reported and the fire is contained.
