After touring Stanton Brothers, farmer decides to stay small

A central Missouri farmer who runs a diversified farm with her sons says she has learned not to go big with her poultry egg operation. Tina Wibberg, who farmers east of Jefferson City, near Taos, attended the MU Pearls of Production event and was on the tour of Stanton Brothers egg farm in Centralia, “It was kind of an eye-opener as far as either go big or stay small. So, for me, it’s going to encourage me to stay smaller.”

The Stanton Brothers say there are FDA regulations that are preventing them from expending their business. Theirs is an independent cage-free egg operation located on their father’s farm. Wibberg tells Brownfield Ag News, “It’s absolutely amazing that they can do what they’ve done with 29-hundred chickens and they are two young men. I raise poultry but not on this level.” Wibberg and her sons also grow soybeans, alfalfa, sorghum, sunflowers, while raising cattle and goats.

Austin Stanton, one of the Stanton Brothers, won the Star Farmer Award at National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
