Do you have a great picture of the Hoan Bridge? The folks behind the Light the Hoan effort want to see it.

Light the Hoan is staging a two-day photo contest to draw attention to efforts to attach thousands of colorful lights to the Hoan, the bridge that soars above the Summerfest grounds (and the Jones Island sewerage plant) connecting downtown to the south side.

Temporary lights were hung this week on the northwest part of the arch as part of a small demonstration project to show how a much-larger lighting display would work.

The Hoan Bridge is reflected in the sunglasses of Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Chelsey Lewis in Milwaukee on Tuesday.

The lights will blink and change colors Thursday night in sync with the Milwaukee Bucks action in their game against the Boston Celtics.

The Bucks are donating gear and tickets to winners of the Hoan photo contest.

Two photo contest winners will be chosen — one Thursday and one Friday.

There are few requirements for the photos.

"Post your best picture of the Hoan," said Light the Hoan spokeswoman Sorrina Beecher.

"It can be a selfie that includes the bridge or it can be just the bridge."

A crew with Pieper Electric (lower left) works on running power to the lighting system on a portion of the Hoan Bridge in Milwaukee on Tuesday. The bridge will be temporarily illuminated to show the impact and capabilities of the proposed LED lighting design that could become permanent with enough donations solicited by the "Light the Hoan" campaign.

Hoan photo contest entrants are asked to tag their photos with #lightthehoan and #fearthedeer.

The Light the Hoan organizers want to raise about $4 million for the bridge lighting. Similar efforts have taken place in numerous other cities, including Memphis, Tennessee, last weekend.

For a minimum contribution of $25, supporters can get one of the thousands of LED lights that would adorn the bridge and the opportunity to post a tribute on the lightthehoan.com website.

The lights will enhance the bridge and downtown and also serve as a "symbolic representation of 'bridging Milwaukeeans together,' " organizers say.
