Tariffs remain a sticking point as USMCA signing approaches

A senior Mexican trade official says steel and aluminum tariffs must be lifted before the country will sign the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement.

Juan Carlos Baker told reporters the countries need to solve the tariff issue first. The countries are supposed to sign the new agreement at the end of November.

U.S. trade officials reportedly want to replace tariffs with a quota system that would place a cap on the amount of steel and aluminum Canada and Mexico can ship to the U.S.
