CHAMBERSBURG - Dilly's restaurant will close at the end of October.

Dilly's, 642 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, will close at the end of business on Oct. 31, 2018. It is pictured here on Oct. 25.

In a post on its Facebook page Wednesday evening, the restaurant said it would close at the end of normal business hours on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Health problems experienced by owners Del Mills and Sandy Mowen were cited as a reason for the closure. Decreasing sales also influenced the decision.

Dilly's has been operating in Chambersburg for almost a quarter a century. It is located at 642 Lincoln Way West, near the intersection of Lincoln Way, Loudon Street and Sollenberger Road.

"It has been a long run of almost 25 years and we couldn't have done it without so many loyal customers and employees," Dilly's said on Facebook.

Dilly's closure could leave a hole in free meals offered this Thanksgiving. For 23 consecutive years, as recently as 2017, the restaurant delivered free Thanksgiving meals to anyone who needed one in the greater Chambersburg area. The restaurant also provided meals to first responders.

Public Opinion has contacted Dilly's for comment. We will update this story if and when we hear back.
