Indiana farmer cuts thank you message to Trump in corn field

Many corn farmers are pleased with President Trump’s directive on year-round E15, and two north central Indiana farmers cut a corn maze into their field to show their appreciation.

Bruce Buchanan and his son Allen carefully harvested a greeting over 60 acres of corn that says, “Thanks Mr. Trump for E15.”

“It was just guys talking and I will tell you when it was mentioned to me on my farm I said, ‘well I’m not going to mow down 200 bushel corn’, he says. “But we went to a smaller combine- an 8-row picker and it’s just amazing how minuscule number of stalks we actually laid over to do what we did.”

The Benton County farmer tells Brownfield that year-round sales of E15 will help corn farmers as they continue to face low commodity prices.

“It could mean 2 billion bushels of usage,” he seas. “we all know the farm economy is down and prices are down so if we eat into our carryover in any significant way, it has to be an enhancement for the market. That effects me or any of us who grow corn.”

Buchanan says the attention the corn maze received has been a little overwhelming. A photo of the corn maze has been retweeted by Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue and White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.

But, Buchanan says it wasn’t meant to be a political statement. He says year-round E15 will be good for all farmers regardless of their political affiliation.
