Authorities release name of pedestrian struck and killed on U.S. 41 in East Naples

The Florida Highway Patrol has identified a 51-year-old pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday night on U.S. 41 in East Naples, according to a news release.

Thurmond Atkinson, of Naples, attempted to walk across U.S. 41 at Airport-Pulling Road at about 10:16 p.m. when he entered the path of an oncoming GMC Terrain, the report says.

Atkinson was taken to NCH Downtown where he was later pronounced dead, the report says. The crash remains under investigation.
