53% of U.S. soybeans, 49% of corn harvested

The USDA says this year’s U.S. soybean harvest is over the halfway point, while corn is close to 50% complete.

It was another mixed week of weather for the Midwest and Plains, but conditions were mostly good for harvest activity, even as soybean collection remains slower than average following heavy rainfall and flooding in parts of the region.

As of Sunday, 49% of corn is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 47%, with most of the major production states ahead of normal. 68% of the crop is in good to excellent condition, steady with a week ago.

53% of U.S. soybeans are harvested, compared to 69% on average, with 13 of the top 18 production states behind their typical paces, including some very significant delays in Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. 66% of U.S. beans are rated good to excellent, unchanged on the week.

72% of U.S. winter wheat is planted and 53% has emerged, both a little bit slower than average.

50% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, up 1% from last week.
