3 arrested in Farmington Hills apartment shooting

Farmington Hills — Police have arrested three people suspected in a Monday shooting at an apartment complex that left one man dead and another injured. 

Detroiters Maliek Thomas Williams, 20; Jamir Dmarco Brown-Gray, 22 and Steven Doinelle Davis, 19 were charged in the slaying death of Alex Ward, 22.

Ward shot to death at the Retreat at Farmington Hills Apartments, located on 12 Mile west of Middle Belt. Another man was also shot, according to police. 

Brown-Gray and Davis have been charged with eight counts: Open murder, assault with intent to murder; possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony; possession of a firearm; discharge of a weapon in or at a building causing injury; discharge of a weapon in or at a building causing death against Brown-Gray and Davis.

Williams was charged the same charges plus possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The suspects were arraigned at the 47th District Court Friday in front of Judge Marla Parker, who ordered them to be held without bond. A preliminary exam date has been set for 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 7.  

Shortly after receiving 911 calls at 1:10 a.m., a Farmington Hills police officer patrolling nearby noticed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The occupants were stopped and arrested. 

Police were able to tie the occupants to the crime scene through evidence.

The investigation was aided by the South Oakland Narcotics Intelligence Consortium (a unit comprised of detectives from the West Bloomfield Township, Farmington Hills and Novi Police dDepartments), Southfield Police Department, Oakland County Sheriff’s Auto Theft Unit, Detroit Police Department, Farmington Public Safety Department, Michigan State Police, DEA Detroit, and members of the Oakland County FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force.

Ward was a Farmington resident and former student at Farmington High School. The other victim was released from the hospital and is expected to recover, police said.
