West-central Minnesota farmer wraps up corn harvest

A west-central Minnesota farmer has wrapped up his 2018 corn harvest.

Chad Willis of Willmar says yields were similar to last year.

“Going to come in right around that 200 (bushels per-acre) mark.  I was expecting more, but we had a late spring and planted into some dry ground (causing) emergence issues.  So I guess overall, I’m happy with the yields.”

He tells Brownfield two or three days of dry weather should be enough to finish soybeans.

“I think up in this area things are looking pretty good.  Thankfully, we didn’t have the snow and heavier rains that north and south of us got.  But yesterday things were going right along.”

Willis says his farm was fortunate to be on the northern edge of heavy rains that damaged crops across southern Minnesota during the growing season.
