With the economy at full employment, the competition among employers to attract and retain top talent is fierce.

That's one reason why the deadline for employers to sign up for the Journal Sentinel Top Workplaces is being extended to Nov. 16.

Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Top Workplaces program is southeast Wisconsin's most prestigious recognition of the region's best employers. It recognizes the businesses and organizations that, according to their own employees, offer the flexibility, training and support those workers need to get ahead.

Recognition as one of the Top Workplaces in the region can provide a competitive advantage for employers as they vie for talent.

How does an employer earn that kind of recognition? The first step: Go to www.jsonline.com/nominate or call (414) 376-5560 to submit a nomination. Businesses and organizations with 50 or more employees in the 10-county area — Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington, Ozaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Walworth, Sheboygan, Jefferson or Dodge — are eligible.

Next, our partner, nationally known workplace consultant Energage, will contact nominated employers and offer to conduct confidential online surveys of their employees at no charge.

“Top Workplaces is more than just recognition,” said Doug Claffey, CEO of Energage. “Our research shows organizations that earn the award attract better talent, experience lower turnover, and are better equipped to deliver bottom-line results. Their leaders prioritize and carefully craft a healthy workplace culture that supports employee engagement.”

The program discloses only the information from participating employers who rank highly enough to be included on the Top Workplaces list.

So far, more than 162 companies have been nominated for the awards this year.

The winners will be featured in a special section of the newspaper and JSOnline.com and at a breakfast gala in April.
