Groups say no farm bill is better than partisan House version

Food, farm, and environmental groups say although it’s critical to pass a farm bill this year, an extension of the expired 2014 Farm Bill would be better than the House version of the bill.

During a joint news conference on Monday, Monica Mills with the Food Policy Action said no farm bill is better than a bad farm bill.

The groups say the final 2018 Farm Bill should resemble the Senate version because it has bipartisan support. Sticking points remain with the nutrition, commodity and conservation titles.

Ranking member Collin Peterson told Brownfield last week the four House and Senate ag committee leaders are committed to getting a farm bill done in the Lame Duck session.

Groups involved in the news conference were: The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, Food Research and Action Center, Food Policy Action, Environmental Working Group, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Union of Concerned Scientists.
