The Griot apartment building, in Milwaukee's Bronzeville neighborhood, includes street-level space with America's Black Holocaust Museum facing West North Avenue and Freedom Endeavors, a new community center and events venue, facing North Phillips Avenue.

A hybrid community center and events venue at a new apartment building in Milwaukee's Bronzeville neighborhood will open with a live music performance.

Freedom Endeavors, 2237 N. Phillips Ave., will host a performance by Mumu Fresh, a Grammy-nominated singer who has toured with The Roots, Common and Jill Scott.

Mumu Fresh will perform at 6 p.m. Oct. 25. Tickets can be purchased at https://freedomendeavors.eventbrite.com.

Freedom Endeavors is part of the first-floor space at The Griot, a 41-unit apartment development that opened this summer. It is next to space that will house America’s Black Holocaust Museum.

The venue is operated by Melissa Goins, who developed The Griot, and JoAnne Sabir, who operates the Juice Kitchen and is a co-developer of Sherman Phoenix — a hub for small businesses opening soon in a renovated building at 3637 W. Fond du Lac Ave.

Freedom Endeavors will provide space for curated art events, shared offices and community gatherings.

It "will be a think tank for all looking to find joy in the work that advances the well-being of the collective," according to a statement from Goins and Sabir.

The Bronzeville neighborhood runs along West North Avenue between North King Drive and I-43. Other new developments there include Pete's Fruit Market, which opened a year ago at 2349 N. King Drive.
