Michigan harvest slowed by wet conditions

Rain has continued to delay harvest in most areas of Michigan.

Jim Zook with Michigan Corn tells Brownfield harvest could go well into December.  “We’re going to end up with about an average yield for the state of Michigan, we believe those early estimates that we have [on the Between the Rows crop tour] are going to hold true.”

The USDA says corn is now 87 percent mature, 60 percent harvested, and condition is 55 percent good to excellent.  Soybeans are 93 percent dropping leaves, 23 percent harvested, and condition is rated 69 percent good to excellent.

Dry beans are 68 percent harvested while sugarbeet harvest is at 38 percent.

Apple harvest has continued to be delayed because of wet conditions and some labor shortages.
