USDA begins issuing $4.8 billion in ARC, PLC, and CRP payments

Farmers started receiving farm safety net and conservation payments this month.

The USDA says $3 billion in payments will be made through ARC and PLC programs for the 2017 crop year, and about $1.8 billion through annual rental payments under the conservation reserve program.

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says the USDA continues to help farmers despite the lapse in the Farm Bill.

Jimmie Musick, president of the National Association of Wheat Growers, says the program payments will provide a “needed cushion” as growers continue to face a down farm economy.
