Farmer says he has great crop but is worried about selling it

A central Indiana farmer says he has mixed feelings about this year’s harvest.

Mike Beard grows corn and soybeans in north central Indiana.

He says it’s hard to be pleased with his above-average yields while commodity prices are struggling.

“Yields on soybeans probably won’t bring me back the budget on a per acre basis because of the price, but yields on corn may get there,” he says.

He tells Brownfield he will try to store his grain until November because the basis is beginning to improve in his area.

Beard says he’s also worried about being able to move crops because of the trade war with China.

“We’ve tried to anticipate and move about 30,000 bushels but I may have another 30,000 or so that needs to be moved,” he says. “If there is no place to go with it that could slow us down- we’ll have to wait on the processor to need the crop.”

Beard says they will likely finish harvest in the next two to three weeks.
