Lakeland man arrested in Collier, accused of trying to use counterfeit $100 bill

A Lakeland man was arrested Wednesday and accused of possessing forged money and making or possessing the means to forge money, a Collier County Sheriff’s Office report states. 

Jeffrey Forget, 36, tried to use a counterfeit $100 bill at an Orchard Supply hardware store on U.S. 41 North, according to the arrest report. The sales associate determined the bill was counterfeit and returned it to Forget fearing the man might have had a weapon, the report states.Forget then exited the store.

A traffic stop of Forget later led to his identification as the individual who tried to use counterfeit money, the report states, and he was arrested. A search revealed counterfeit money and materials to produce more counterfeit money, according to the report.

Forget  faces charges of possessing 10 or more similar forged bills and making or possessing the instruments for forging bills. He also faces misdemeanor counts of damaging bank bills willfully and maliciously and falsely identifying himself to a law enforcement officer while detained.

His bail was set at $86,500.
