MSU QB Brian Lewerke hands the ball off to La'Darius Jefferson against Northwestern, Saturday., Oct. 6, 2018. MSU lost 29-19.

Last Saturday's loss to Northwestern was a tough one to swallow for the Michigan State football program.

Another stagnant performance offensively left the Spartans both 3-2 and out of the top 25 rankings for the first time all season.

No. 8 Penn State, on the other hand, had a bye week after blowing a double-digit lead in losing to No. 3 Ohio State and is probably not the team Michigan State wants to face right now.

But the Spartans pulled off the upset in East Lansing last year, dashing the Nittany Lions' College Football Playoff hopes.

Can the Spartans do it again?
