Ohio farmer has grain quality concerns

A Southern Ohio farmer says he could have a record crop, but the grain quality is suffering because of disease pressure.

Greg Corcoran grows corn, soybeans and popcorn in Scioto, Ross, and Pike counties.

“We have found quite a bit of mold and ear rot in corn and a lot of disease pressure in soybeans,” he says. “We may be looking at record yields but the quality is unsatisfying.”

He tells Brownfield he is facing a storage problem because of the large crop.

“We’re looking at opportunities to haul in when we can and then in turn trying to find ways that we can get this crop off and stored in the right conditions,” he says.

Corcoran says harvest should wrap up in the next few weeks.
