The nomination period for the Blavatnik National Awards for Young Scientists is now open and will close on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.
The Blavatnik National Awards celebrate the excellence of outstanding young faculty-rank scientists and engineers from approximately 300 invited institutions across the United States. It recognizes exceptional individuals and their accomplishments in the areas of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, and Chemistry. One Blavatnik National Laureate will be selected from each disciplinary category and will receive $250,000 in unrestricted funds.
Computer scientists are eligible for the award in Physical Sciences and Engineering. There are separate award competitions in the US, the UK, and Israel. In 2018, the winner in Physical Sciences and Engineering was a computer scientist.
The nominee must:
- Have been born in or after 1977*.
- Hold a doctorate degree (PhD, DPhil, MD, DDS, DVM, etc.).
- Currently hold a faculty position at an invited institution in the United States.
- Currently conduct research as a principal investigator in one of the disciplinary categories in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, or Chemistry.
*Age limit exceptions will be considered by the Academy in exceptional circumstances upon a detailed written submission from the nominating institution received by the Academy at blavatnikawards@nyas.org no later than Wednesday, October 31, 2018.
The Blavatnik Awards strongly encourages the nomination of women and other underrepresented groups in science and engineering. Previously nominated individuals who were not selected as Laureates in past Awards cycles may be nominated again.
Institutional nominations must be submitted by the institution’s President, Provost, or the President’s official designee (official designees must notify blavatnikawards@nyas.org of the delegation of responsibilities). Each institution may nominate up to three individuals, one for each disciplinary category (Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, and Chemistry).
