Collier deputy, Naples driver receive minor injuries in two-car crash Sunday along County Road 886

Crime

A Collier County Sheriff's Office deputy and another driver suffered minor injuries late Sunday night when the driver turned in front of the deputy on county road 886 near 44th Street SW.

Robert Demarsico, 61, of Naples was driving a 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis east on 886 approaching 44th and had a flashing red turn signal. Collier Deputy Ryan Diaz of Naples was westbound in a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria cruiser and had a flashing yellow signal.

A Florida Highway Patrol report said Demarsico turned in front of Diaz, causing the deputy to strike the side of the Grand Marquis. The crash happened shortly before 11:30 p.m.

Demarsico was charged with failure to obey a flashing red stop signal. Diaz was enroute to a call for service without lights and siren at the time of the crash.
