More trade deals to be made

The U.S. Ag Secretary is ready to go after other trade deals now that an agreement has been made with Canada and Mexico.

Sonny Perdue says the United States Mexico Canada agreement ended better than expected for the U.S.  “We get better access for dairy, we get better access for poultry, for eggs, we get the wheat grading issue resolved, we get the wine issue resolved in British Columbia, and those are all improvements from where we were.”  He says the U.S. is now focusing on updating trade agreements with the European Union, Japan, India and China.

Chris Galen with the National Milk Producers Federation tells Brownfield the new NAFTA agreement is far from finalized because it still needs to be approved by all three governments.  In the meantime, he says, tariffs are still in place in Mexico and put U.S. dairy products at a disadvantage.  “U.S. exporters have been eating the cost of the tariffs, either alone or in conjunction with their customers, so obviously everyone would like to see those tariffs go away.”

He says he’d like the administration to turn its attention now to China to resolve the next set of trade challenges.

  • You want the US Mexico Canada Trade Agreement approved? Write and call your Congressional representatives – stop whining and get busy! And….China is not now nor has it ever been a friend of the United States. We have the ability to seek trade agreements world-wide with countries that are not spying on us, stealing our intellectual properties, or producing products at questionable standards. If China cannot agree to play fairly, then they need to be left to last on our list of possible trade partners and the U. S. should concentrate on countries that want “fair trade”! Play bowing down to China!!!!!!
