CHAMBERSBURG - Several residents have reported to borough police what they believe is a scam involving supposed employees with an electric company going door-to-door.

Chambersburg Police said a number of citizens called the department Thursday about a group of men and one woman who said they were with West Penn Power but were not wearing any identifying clothing and would not provide identification. These individuals asked the residents to share their borough utility bills and said they would be back the next day to do work inside their homes.

Everyone in the group was black, police said, but no other description was provided. They were seen in a dark blue van, which residents said made a loud noise.

Chambersburg Police Department warns residents to be aware of this and similar scams. Take caution when dealing with people going door-to-door.

Residents in the borough receive electric service from the borough. West Penn Power serves customers outside the borough.

Anyone who is or has been contacted by this group should notify police by calling 717-264-4131.
