Florida Tech's annual International Dinner Series begins with Around the World Buffet

Florida Today

Florida Tech once again offers its popular International Dinner Series, where authentic foods from Africa, India, the Caribbean and elsewhere are on the menu for curious (and hungry) diners on campus and across the Space Coast.

Launched in 2014 by the university’s Campus Dining Services director Tom Stewart and chef de cuisine Jon Skoviera, the series features monthly buffet-style dinners offering authentic foods from different regions and countries. To ensure that authenticity, each food has been tasted, tested and approved by Florida Tech students and staff from the country or region featured that month.

The monthly dinners are on Thursdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Panther Dining Hall and cost $16 per person. A special Mother’s Day Brunch that concludes the International Dinner Series is from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The series kicks off with the Around the World dinner Sept. 27. It features dishes from eight countries, including chicken and potatoes roasted in a chili sauce from Mexico (pollo adobo con papas); a stew of lamb, vegetables and broth from United Arab Emirates (tharid); spicy fried cauliflower from India (gobhi manchurian); and a potato salad with grilled tuna and olives from Spain (pipirrana).

Each month except December and April will feature foods from a different country or region. Here’s the schedule:

• Oct. 18: Caribbean

• Nov. 8: India

• Jan. 31: China

• Feb. 28: Africa

• March 28: Latin & South America

• May 12: Mother’s Day Brunch Around the World

In addition to the food, there will be related educational materials posted in the dining hall and, at some meals, entertainment from the country or region that developed the cuisine.

Panther Dining Hall, 3113 Panther Place, is just south of the Clemente Center on the Florida Tech campus in Melbourne. Visitor parking is free on the first floor of the parking garage behind the dining hall.
