The obverse (heads) of the coin features two women. The older woman has her hands on her chest and a relieved expression on her face. The younger woman, with a scarf on her head, holds one hand over her chest and the other raised in a fist as if she is ready to fight. A butterfly flies above the two women. Inscriptions on the obverse are LIBERTY, the year 2018, and IN GOD WE TRUST.

The coin’s reverse (tails) depicts a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly in flight, a symbol of hope. Inscriptions on the reverse are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the denomination HALF DOLLAR, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and BREAST CANCER AWARENESS.

Designed by Ethel Kessler, the stamp features an illustration of a mythical “goddess of the hunt” by Whitney Sherman and includes the phrases FUND THE FIGHT and FIND A CURE.

The encapsulated coin and stamp are mounted on an attractive folder with important facts about breast cancer. The folder is housed in a sleeve with the certificate of authenticity printed on the back.

The Mint accepts orders online and 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321-MINT. Information about shipping options is available at the Mint’s website.<script><script><script>

Orders for the Breast Cancer Awareness Coin and Stamp Set are limited to one set per household. The product limit is 25,000 units.

The 2018 Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Program is authorized by Public Law 114-148 in recognition of America’s fight against breast cancer. Surcharges collected from the sale of each coin are authorized to be distributed—in accordance with the law—to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to further its efforts in breast cancer research.

Very worthy cause! 2 articles on same subject in a week with I’m sure another plug on the 1st?

It’ll take more than frequent blasts on MNB to goose sales! That basically is what I getting to the other day(9/18) when I posted this!

“Curious what, if any restrictions are applied to surcharge receiving organizations or affiliated causes(BCA) regarding promoting or advertising, US Mint commemorative coin products?

The reason I ask, is that there is barely a mention on the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer site re: The Breast Cancer Awareness coins? You have to do a search, which only produces content from 2015 and the approval of the series.

IMHO had the S. G. Komen site been allowed or chose to help promote the series, more money would’ve or could’ve been generated re: the payout of surcharges for this very worthy cause!

Seems odd that if there aren’t US Mint restrictions in place(maybe there are) that affiliated causes wouldn’t help to get the word out by providing a small link on their webpage? I feel like this topic or something very similar has been discussed here on MNB before? Just curious……

IMHO, there is a very, very good chance we would have seen much higher sales of products relating to this commemorative coin program had SGK chosen or been allowed to advertise the offerings!

Not to mention the advertising blast and potential for the US Mint to increase traffic as well as sales of their other products! If you want to increase your customer base or sales, you have got to get people or new people to come to your store! Whether it be brick and mortar or online? Correct me if I’m wrong…….

If the US Mint were smart, the benefitting organization should be required to either advertise or find affiliated(cause) organizations that can or will help promoting the offering! Seems like the Mint is missing out on a “Golden”(PI) opportunity to increase visibility, traffic and sales? Just saying…….”

Cag, thanks, USM could goose market & ruffle feathers IF they say Pulled the 2018 Proof ASE from available items… 150k “only” They barely have gone past my 1st day sale prediction of 19,5oo for the 1/10 Liberty 24kt coin…. very slow low seller…..

  12. datadave says

The W ASE had bigger sales this week than the S ASE, but the S ASE is still over 128K with the special edition silver set yet to come. Looks like 2017 S ASE will remain a good coin to hold.

  13. Jerry Diekmann says

CalSkier – The Susan B. Komen Foundation was set up by her sister (I believe they were a wealthy family) to help fund awareness and medical research to prevent breast cancer. My mother died from breast cancer metastisi at the age of 45 (she first contracted breast cancer when she was 37). I was 12 years old at the time of her passing and I have always wanted to do what I could to aid the cause to fight this terrible disease. However, like my brother once told me, “No good deed ever goes unpunished” and I found out later that this foundation was just a front for conservative politics against Planned Parenthood. Now, I was raised Catholic and I still believe abortion is wrong, but I also believe a woman has a right to choose what to do with her own body. I wrote to the Foundation and told them to take me off their donor list and never send me another solicitation, and they have complied. I don’t support Planned Parenthood but only 3% of their expenses are for abortion counseling – the other 97% go for addressing women’s health issues.

“Question- Does anyone see Pallidum out performing Gold anytime soon?”

On 08/16/2018 The Spread was Gold + $291.70
On Launch Day for the Proof Palladium the Spread was Gold +$228.50
Currently the Spread is Gold +$143.80

I remember a little Over a year ago when the ? was asked if Palladium would ever catch Platinum?
Currently the Spread is Palladium + $236.00…

  15. says

There will NOT be a Mint Gold Decrease today.

There WILL be a Mint Palladium price Increase this afternoon.

The ? is whether it will be 1 tier or 2 tiers?

My guess is that it will be 2 tiers or a $100 price Increase this afternoon for Palladium.

That would make the Mint’s grid pricing for the 2018 Proof Palladium $1,487.50.

That would make Launch Day pricing of $1,387.50 a little easier to swallow…

  16. says

The last 3 completed bay auctions for the 2018 Proof Palladium were $2,500.00 or Above.

The next 2 auctions for today are Currently over $2,550.00.

The Lowest Current BIN is $2,594.95.

Current supply is Decreasing and Big Boys are still Buying…

  18. ips_stuff says

    @Cagcrisp.
your price increase note reminds my of my buying tires experience this week.
Got a good price quoted, went to the tire dealer and we went through the formalities (Like going to the mint website to beat the price increase) . They start on my car, remove my wheels and then tell me they don’t have my tires. The price at this point does not matter, when there is nothing to purchase.

  19. says

@ips_stuff, The Mint’s continues to sell a few of the 2018 Proof Palladiums.

There were 88 of the 2018 Proof Palladium’s sold last week.

I’ve pretty much known for a week that there would be either a $50 or $100 price Increase today,

To the Mint’s credit, they did not wait until the price Increase to sell those 88 coins and there is still ~ 100 to go.

…SO…I have to give the Mint credit for that…

You are so right. Eleven cowardly GOP men leave it up to a woman to ask questions of Kavanaugh’s accuser. If these excuses for men cannot carry out their Constitutional obligations, then they should all resign and let better men and women fill their shoes. Probably the lowest point in respect for the Senate in our nation’s history.
