CORUNNA - A man has been charged in connection with a crash that killed a Michigan State University employee Wednesday night on Interstate 69 in Shiawassee County.

Zachary Fenner, 28, was arraigned Friday in 66th District Court on one count of reckless driving causing death.

The Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office said Sheila Adams, of Flint, was driving east on I-69 in the Durand area about 10:30 p.m. when Fenner's vehicle hit her vehicle from behind, causing it to flip several times, two Flint media outlets reported.

Police said Fenner was driving at high speed when the collision happened and was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to those reports.

Adams, 33, was an assistant dining service manager at MSU, according to a death notice posted on the university's website.

Court records list a Lowell mailing address for Fenner, but police said he is from Indiana. It was unclear if he is represented by an attorney.

Reckless driving causing death carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison upon conviction. Fenner has pleaded not guilty, and a hearing to determine whether Fenner should stand trial on the charge is set for Oct. 9, court records show.
