9 Natural & Organic Products that are Surprisingly Good

Hands down, these are the best natural products that will not only exceed your expectations, but work even better than the chemical-filled brands you used to love!

I've just about had it with those articles that pop up in my Facebook feed telling me all the brands I love (from Lysol to L'Oreal) are infected with toxins that are going to endanger me and my family. I've TRIED the "natural" stuff but it just never works as well. Then I read this... and I think maybe I'll just take a slower approach and try these natural products that may work even better than the chemical-filled brands I love! #naturalproducts #organicproducts #naturalhome

If I have a choice between (1) a product that actually works and (2) a product that is natural / organic but that doesn’t work well, I’ll take #1.

Nothing is more frustrating than to spend money on something only to be disappointed by the results.

I’ve tried to go all-natural in the past (I went through a particularly crunchy phase when I was first married), but when I found dud after dud after dud, I lost faith in the effectiveness of natural products.

In fact, Method Toilet Cleaner sent me right back to my love of Lysol and I still have yet to find a working alternative! (If you know of one, please comment below!)

But here’s the irony: I read natural living blogs and listen to podcasts and know that toxins are invading our bodies via everything from cleaners to skin care. It’s really scary to find out that products we use every day contain ingredients linked to terrifying words, like cancer.

So despite my crunchy concerns, I put on my sleuthing cap again and discovered a handful of the best natural products that not only exceeded my expectations, they worked even better than the chemical-filled brands I used to love!

Ready for the list?

9 of the Best Natural Products (that really work!)

1. Burt’s Bees Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm

I’ll be honest with you—I’m pretty skeptical of natural lip balms because most of them disappoint. If they don’t feel nourishing or go on as smoothly as my go-to Blistex, I ditch them.

But Burt’s Bees Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm checks off both of my must-have features. I even made Joseph try it and he agreed—it’s the best natural lip balm!

2. Simple Makeup Remover Wipes

I was first introduced to these makeup wipes when Simple sponsored my bad beauty habits blog post. But I absolutely have to mention them here (not sponsored!), because they are the best makeup remover wipes for sensitive skin!

The cloths are super soft and work so well that you don’t have to rub or tug at your skin, not even on hard-to-remove areas like around the eye.

Since makeup wipes are a splurge for me, I only use them when I’m traveling—the pouch is so easy to pack. For evenings at home, I opt for my fool-proof homemade makeup remover, which I’ll talk about next!

3. Natural Eye Makeup Remover

If you want a product that erases any trace of makeup, this homemade option for natural eye makeup remover ranks far above store-bought brands. It’s super simple to whip up since it features only three ingredients—coconut oil, lavender essential oil, and frankincense essential oil—and comes in right around $3.00 to make.

When I first tried this recipe, I thought the coconut oil would be irritating to my sensitive eyes. But it actually felt more soothing than the brand I was using.

Plus I love that the added essential oils help prevent wrinkles and offers much-needed skin support, which I was just talking about last week in my letter of advice to my younger self!

4. Mrs. Meyer’s Dish Soap

High quality dish soaps made of natural ingredients are hard to come by…or so I thought! Mrs. Meyer’s hand soap suds up beautifully (this is very important to me!) and easily cuts through grease and grime, making it the only dish soap I use on a daily basis. Plus, their scents smell heavenly!

You can purchase these bottles through Amazon or Target, but I like having them shipped directly to my door through Grove Collaborative.

If you’re curious what other tools I swear by in the kitchen sink, here’s how to do dishes faster (and do less of them)!

5. Essenza Hand Soap

I used to be a Bath and Beauty Works hand soap junkie, stocking up on semi-annual sales like it was my job. But then I tried this nourishing hand soap from the Essenza line, which are formulated with pure essential oils.

They’re also free from all that artificial stuff, and they smell absolutely divine (I’m sensing a pattern here!). My favorites for sure are the Mango Agave and Pear Glaze!

Amazon does sell Essenza, but you can actually get a better price from Bed, Bath, and Beyond when you use a coupon in store. However you get it, do give it a try as these are some of the absolute best natural products.

6. Burt’s Bees Facial Moisturizer

I’ve always kept a healthy supply of Mary Kay’s Age-Fighting Moisturizer on hand, but in my search for the best natural products, my friend Rachelle suggested I try Burt’s Bees facial moisturizer.

I purchased both the daily moisturizing cream and the night cream, but it looks like I fell prey to marketing—they feature the exact same ingredients! But that doesn’t discount the soothing feeling of this light and fragrance-free cream.

In fact, my skin feels so soft, I keep reaching up to touch my face…except that’s a definite beauty no-no!

7. Wool Dryer Balls

Dryer sheets might smell nice, but they also coat your clothes with nasty toxins. Plus, you always have to buy more! I’ve used these wool dryer balls for the past three years and have only had to replace a couple of them during that time.

Here’s the beauty of them: Dryer balls keep your clothes static-free and you can add a drop or two of essential oils to each ball for a refreshing smell (optional).

A reader once asked me if wool dryer balls wore out my clothes more quickly because of the balls flying around in the dryer, beating against them. My answer is no, but I always hang dry my more delicate tops and save the dryer for towels, jeans, and t-shirts.

Note: The last two products are only available through Young Living (I know, sorry, no Prime shipping!) but if you contact me, I can do a one-time share of my wholesale discount if you’d like to try either of them before ordering a Starter Kit. I don’t do the business side of oils, so there’s absolutely no pressure to commit to anything!

8. Savvy Minerals Eye Color

I’m a big fan of Mary Kay eye colors, but on a whim, decided to try Young Living’s brand. I was pleasantly surprised! Their Savvy Minerals eye shadow is mineral based (obviously!), blends beautifully, and lasts all day. Plus, you know you’re putting high-quality natural ingredients on your skin.

I currently have the color Spoiled, which is a pinkish brown, and looks very natural with just a slight pop of color. I’m looking forward to adding more to my collection.

9. Thieves Essential Oil

The bacteria-fighting properties of Thieves, an essential oil blend, are amazing. Truly. If you need proof and want to geek out for a few minutes, this study (done by a gal with a Ph.D. in biochemistry) is absolutely fascinating. It backs up the results I’ve seen in my own life that Thieves is definitely one of the best natural products.

For instance, I diffused Thieves in the house where I and my sister’s wedding party were staying. No one else got the nasty 24-hour stomach bug Joseph carried with him from our Florida friends.

There’s actually a whole line of Thieves products through Young Living. I haven’t tried the detergent yet, but have been very impressed with Thieves cleaner on my floors!

I’m less of a skeptic now and more of a believer that effective, toxic-free products do exist, making it easier to “ditch and switch” to a greener alternative—woohoo!

Oh, and if you want a shortcut to scan your shopping choices at the store, or just see what types of things are in the products you have around the house, one fun tool is the Healthy Living (EWG) app. It makes scanning for toxins feel almost like a game!
