The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office has charged Jay Allen Burnett, a 34-year-old Novi man, with first-degree premeditated murder in his girlfriend's death.

Burnett was denied bond at his arraignment at 52-1 District Court on Wednesday, and will be held at Oakland County Jail as his case is decided.

Early Monday, police and medics responded to a mobile home on the 26000 block of Indiana and found the body of the victim, 38-year-old Jamie McManaman, on the floor of her kitchen, having been stabbed multiple times. The area is south of Grand River and east of Napier.

Police named Burnett as a suspect almost immediately, and by the end of the night Monday Burnett had turned himself in to the Michigan State Police Metro North post in Oak Park.

Novi police will continue their investigation of McManaman's death, and ask anyone with information to share it at (248) 348-7100. Tipsters who prefer anonymity can call Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 800-SPEAK-UP.
