Chanel Apotheosis Le Mat de Chanel

The Le Rouge Crayon de Couleur Mat is a more gentle matte than the Rouge Allure Inks – I would describe the finish as ‘leather’ in that it’s not a dry matte and nor is it sheeny exactly but it does get some light reflection. In the same way that a soft, pliable leather jacket is effortless and stylish (unless you’re vegan.. please don’t @ me!), so are the crayons. The pigment is exceptional so you need to apply with absolute precision – once done, it doesn’t seem to bleed or budge. There is some bleed in the swatches which hasn’t translated to my lips, thankfully.

One of Lucia Pica’s skills is her ability with red – to see a multitude of nuances in red and translate them onto skin. In the swatch from bottom to top: Impact, Excess, Discretion, Subversion and Impulsion. Subversion and Impulsion are my top picks for dramatic reds – in fact, the crayons are my top picks from the collection.. even at £31 each HERE.

There are four Rouge Allure Inks – super intense, super matte and just basically all round pretty super actually! These are more like liquid lipsticks than anything, with a huggy doe’s foot applicator. Again, careful application is necessary – these aren’t my favourite textures to be honest but once they’re on, they stay very well.

I have here Euphorie and Melancholia and swatched next to them is the Stylo Ombre et Contour eye kohl in Contour Clair which I’m wearing across my whole lid as I write. The Inks are HERE and cost £31 – I’m linking to Selfridges for these and I can see stock is already low on all of the new collection.

I can predict straight away that Profundeur will sell out more quickly than anything else. It’s a rouge-noir-ish burgundy velvet finish polish. I’ve been experimenting with it and it’s hard to use but when you get it right, it’s amazing. Like the crayons, it’s more of a leather finish than true matte – no chalkiness whatsoever … even if you think you don’t want to revisit matte nails again, I guarantee this is the polish that will break your will! I’ve applied it twice – the first time I realised that you need to be very, very precise and accurate with it. It needs two coats that have to be applied exactly the same – so one exactly on top of the other – otherwise you end up with a lighter edge. I got it right the second time, but you also do need to give it time to dry through properly. Profundeur requires commitment but once you’re there, it’s perfection. I haven’t tried the other shade, Ultime, yet but have swatched on the nail wheel below.
