Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim surrendered himself to police Tuesday night after he pleaded guilty in Chandler to extreme DUI.

Keim checked into the Lower Buckeye Jail at 9 p.m. Tuesday. He will serve 48 consecutive hours, after which he will be fitted with an ankle monitor and will be on house arrest, although he can leave and do whatever he wants from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

He’ll be wearing that monitor for seven days. Keim will also be required to install an ignition interlock device on his vehicle for 12 months.

Keim grew up in New Cumberland and attended Red Land High School. He climbed up the ranks of the Cardinals' scouting department until becoming general manager in 2013.

DUI law in Arizona says his driver’s license will be suspended for 30 days. After that, he can apply for a restricted permit that allows him to drive for specific purposes, such as to work or a substance abuse treatment program. That applies for 60 days. After 90 days, his license can be reinstated.

Keim had more than two times the legal limit for alcohol in his system when he was pulled over on July 4.

The Cardinals fined Keim $200,000 and suspended him for five weeks effective immediately and he will return Aug. 22. 

The Cardinals begin training camp at University of Phoenix Stadium on July 27.

His fine will be donated to the Arizona chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), according to the Cardinals.

The team has also ordered Keim to undergo counseling and he is subject to separate discipline by the NFL.Keim has been the Cardinals general manager for the last five years after originally joining the team as a scout in 1999.
