Police have released the identity of a man killed in a car crash with a semi near Grand Ledge Tuesday, July 17.

Police have released the identity of the man who died when his car collided with a semi Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 96.

Nicholas Delaney, 38, of Shelbyville, died in the crash. Shelbyville is in Allegan County about 85 miles west of Lansing.

Police said Delaney was driving on the overpass at Grange Road on I-96 near Grand Ledge as traffic slowed for a construction zone, Clinton County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Clarke said.

Delaney did not slow down in time and rear-ended the semi, Clarke said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi driver, who is 31 and from Ontario, Canada, was not injured.

The crash backed up traffic for hours as crews worked to clean up and reconstruct the crash.
