Man found dead behind Ypsilanti Twp. Walmart

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s officials are seeking tips to find relatives of a man found dead near an Ypsilanti Township Walmart this week.

Deputies were called to the store on Ellsworth Road about 2:30 p.m. Monday in Ypsilanti Township after remains were found in a wooded area behind the shopping center, authorities said in a statement.

Authorities identified Alven Newsome, who appeared to have been living in the area for some time, the release said.

“There were no signs of foul play, and at this stage we believe he may have died of natural causes,” investigators said. “Although we have been able to identify Mr. Newsome, we have not been able to locate any known family members.”

Newsome’s last known address was in Ann Arbor. He is described as a 49-year-old white man with green eyes and gray hair.
