Starting at about 8 a.m., Michigan State Police will lead a funeral procession that will take a fallen active duty member of the U.S. Navy to Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, where a burial will take place. This is likely to affect northbound drivers as they begin their morning commute.

The procession will travel about 60 miles from the Cole Funeral Home in Detroit up northbound Interstate 75, to the Great Lakes National Cemetery.

Michigan law does not require that drivers stop for funeral processions, but drivers are not allowed to cut through them, and should vacate the lane the procession is using, said Lt. Mike Shaw, a Michigan State Police spokesman.

Buried Tuesday at the cemetery will be Second Class Petty Officer Quintinthomas May, Shaw said. The Cole Funeral Home has May's age listed as 28.

The U.S. Navy did not immediately respond to a request for information.
