The Red Wings have traded defenseman Robbie Russo to the Coyotes for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

The Detroit Red Wings have acquired a conditional seventh-round draft pick in next year's NHL Draft from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for defenseman Robbie Russo, the team announced Sunday.

Russo spent last season with the Red Wings' AHL-affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins where he had 32 points, including nine goals, and was a plus-6 in 75 games. The 6-foot defenseman also registered an assist in five playoff games during the Griffins' first-round series against the Manitoba Moose.

Russo, 25, was a plus-2 in 19 games with the Red Wings during the 2016-17 season.

The U.S. National Development Team product joined the Red Wings' organization in 2015, signing a two-year entry-level deal. The former Notre Dame standout was a mainstay in Grand Rapids and a member of the Griffins' 2017 Calder Cup championship team.

The trade comes on the same day the team placed defenseman Xavier Ouellet on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying him out of his contract.

Ouellet, 24, has another year on his deal at $1.3 million.
