Detroit — The NHL Entry Draft begins with Rasmus Dahlin — one of the best prospects in years — but doesn’t end with him.

The Buffalo Sabres likely changed their organization’s fortunes when they won the draft lottery and earned the right to pick first Friday — earning the right to select Dahlin, a 6-foot-3 defenseman with no apparent weaknesses.

But Dahlin, as good as he is, isn’t the lone prize in this draft class.

Most scouts feel there are about 8-10 players who could conceivably become stars, or impact players, in the NHL.

Dahlin leads a glut of very good defensemen who could jump immediately into the NHL.

Which makes the Red Wings happy, picking sixth Friday, along with the 30th pick acquired from Vegas in a trade for Tomas Tatar.

The Wings should come away with a quality young defenseman, if that’s what they choose to do at No. 6.

Be on the lookout for trades, also, as teams look to move up or down, and add picks for later rounds, which also are said to be laden with potentially helpful players.
