Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State football team have been given 7-to-1 odds to reach the 2018 College Football Playoff.

How do you view Michigan State's chances of making the College Football Playoff?

One of Las Vegas's biggest sportsbooks, the Westgate Resort & Casino, is pretty high on the Spartans, giving them a 7-to-1 shot to be among the Football Bowl Subdivision's final four teams.

That 7-to-1 shot ties them for 11th-best odds with Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame and Texas.

Interestingly enough, four other Big Ten teams are ahead of the Spartans: Ohio State (5-to-4), Michigan (3-to-1), Wisconsin (5-to-1) and Penn State (6-to-1).

Combining Michigan State's 10-3 record, a dominant bowl game win over Washington State and 18 returning starters, the sky might be the limit.

The Spartans' defense speaks for itself, with nine starters back from a team that ranked seventh in total defense and second in rush defense in the FBS.

Although QB Brian Lewerke is earning plenty of plaudits in the offseason, the offense will need to see a spike upward if CFP dreams are to be realized. The Spartans scored 18 points or less in regulation seven times in 2017. They did, however, win four of those contests.

Michigan State made the College Football Playoff in 2015, earning a No. 3 seed after beating Iowa in the Big Ten championship game. The Spartans lost to eventual national champion Alabama, 38-0, in the semifinal.
