We’ve released 12 new science skills for grades 6-8! These skills cover topics such as weather and climate, particle motion and energy, natural selection, and engineering practices.

How do air masses form?

In these skills, students explore detailed maps for real-world weather conditions and learn how air masses form and behave.

Introduction to natural selection

This skill uses engaging illustrations to introduce students to natural selection and prepare them for more advanced statistics-based skills that follow.

New language arts skills

Exciting news for our global learners: we now offer comprehensive phonics coverage for each English-language edition of IXL! Now, budding readers and writers can practice 140 new grade 1 and grade 2 phonics skills focused on reading, phonics rules, and spelling patterns.

Complete the poem with a word that rhymes

In this whimsical skill, students practice building their reading fluency and comprehension. After reading a short poem, students will complete the poem with a word that rhymes.

Spell words with open and closed syllables

This skill teaches students how to read and spell longer words by understanding their syllable structure. After listening to an audio recording that demonstrates how to divide the syllables, students can put two syllable tiles together to complete a word.
