Police: Mom ODs with child, 3, in car

A 29-year-old Waterford Township woman overdosed in Independence Township Saturday, on what police believe to be heroin while she was in a car with her 3-year-old daughter, police said.

The overdose took place about 2:06 p.m. on the 2500 block of Mann Road, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating. The area is south of Interstate 75, east of Clintonville Road.

Police responded to a 911 call saying a woman was unresponsive, inside a silver Dodge Charger. They arrived and found the woman's breathing to be shallow. She was unconscious. Police believed these were the symptoms of an opioid overdose and administered the opioid antidote Narcan, which worked. The woman became "alert and responsive" afterward.

Paramedics from the township's fire department transported the woman to an area hospital; her child was turned over to her grandmother, and police alerted Child Protective Services of the incident.

Police will present the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, which will make a decision on whether to pursue charges against the woman.
