Driver ran from crash that killed Dover Twp. firefighter, but turned himself in, police say

The driver of a car involved in a crash that claimed the life of a Dover Township firefighter ran from the scene, but turned himself into police a short time later, according to Northern York County Regional Police.

The three-vehicle crash happened late Friday night on Emig Mill Road at Mayfield Drive in Dover Township, police said. 

Chase Hartlaub, an 18-year-old firefighter with the Dover Township Volunteer Fire Department, sustained injuries in the crash and died at York Hospital on Saturday morning, according to the York County Coroner's Office.

An autopsy on Monday showed that he died of blunt force head trauma, the coroner's office said. The manner is accidental.

18-year-old Chase Hartlaub from York died on Saturday, June 16 after a crash in Dover Township.

On Monday, police released the results of the initial investigation.

Hartlaub was a passenger in a 2012 BMW 328i that was traveling eastbound on Emig Mill Road when it collided with a 2001 Ford Escape in the intersection. A 2006 Toyota Corolla also was damaged because of the crash.

The 22-year-old driver of the BMW, whose name has not been released, was not injured. He ran from the scene but turned himself in a short time later, police said.

The driver of the Ford Escape, who was not named, was not injured, police said. No one was in the Toyota Corolla.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
