This is just one piece of data included in a graphic by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts. The graphic details how many summary traffic violations were issued in the past few years, and breaks down what age groups, genders and colors of cars are more likely to get a ticket.

According to the data, there were 6.9 million summary traffic violations issued in the state from 2013 to 2017. This means that on average, about 3,796 traffic tickets were issued every day.

Of these tickets, speeding ranks as the top traffic violation in Pennsylvania.

More than 20 percent of traffic tickets were issued for this offense, followed by obedience to traffic control devices (11 percent) and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection (9 percent).

Younger drivers made up a majority of those receiving these citations. According to the graphic, 34 percent of drivers who received a speeding ticket were between the ages of 20 and 29. Drivers in their 30s followed with 23 percent of tickets being written for this age group. Older drivers only accounted for a small portion of speeding citations, with those ages 60 and up receiving 7 percent of tickets.

One gender also took home more than half of the speeding tickets during this time frame. According to the data, 63 percent of tickets were written for men, compared to 35 percent for women.

Those hitting the road in spring should be cautious, as more tickets are issued during this season. The courts say about 10 percent of speeding tickets for the year are given in April, and another 11 percent are given in May.

Summer can also be a time for ticketing, with about 26 percent of tickets being written between June and August. Around 8 percent of tickets were written in June, and 9 percent were written in July and August.

In addition, certain car colors were more likely to get cited for speeding. Drivers in black cars made up 21 percent of the citations. Silver and white cars were a close second and third, with silver making up 18 percent and white making up 17 percent.

And for those who do get cited with speeding, the fines can be hefty. Drivers caught going 10 mph over a speed limit of 65 mph or 70 mph can pay as much as $169 in fines. This jumps nearly $40 for drivers caught going 20 mph over these speed limits, bringing the total costs up to $204.
