Fairfield, Delone Catholic softball teams to play for District 3 titles

Delone Catholic softball will face Brandywine Heights for the District 3 3A title on Tuesday, May 29.

Two Adams County teams are going for district gold on Tuesday. 

Both Fairfield and Delone Catholic softball teams advanced to the championship game in their respective classes: the Green Knights in 2A and the Squirettes in 3A.

Here's a look at how the squads got there: 

Fairfield

The Green Knights had a short trip to the title game as only four teams made the District 3 2A field. In its semifinal matchup, Fairfield, the No.1 seed, made quick work of Camp Hill, 17-11.

The Knights face No. 2 Upper Dauphin at 4 p.m., May 29 at Messiah College's Starry Softball Field for the title.

Upper Dauphin advanced to the championship with a 3-0 victory against York Catholic. Fairfield and Upper Dauphin also met for the title in 2017, with the Green Knights earning a 5-2 victory.

Delone Catholic

The Squirettes, seeded third in the six-team field, pulled out a one-run victory, 7-6, against No. 6 Oley Valley in the quarterfinals. 

They shutout No. 2 Kutztown, 3-0, in the semifinals to punch their ticket to the final.

Delone will meet No. 1 Brandywine Heights at 6 p.m., May 29 at Millersville University's Seaber Softball Stadium. 

After a bye in the quarterfinals, Brandywine made short work of Annville-Cleona with a 14-2, five-inning victory to advance to the championship.

Still alive

Two other Hanover-area teams are alive in the postseason. 

Spring Grove softball beat YAIAA rival Northeastern, 6-3, in the 5A quarterfinals on Thursday. The No. 7 Rockets move on to face No. 6 Lampeter-Strasburg in Tuesday's semifinals. The game is set for 2 p.m. at Messiah College's Starry Softball Field.

In boys' lacrosse, South Western beat Lancaster Country Day on Wednesday to earn the final 2A spot in the PIAA tournament. The Mustangs posted a 13-9 victory and will face the No. 1 seed out of District 1, Bishop Shanahan at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Methacton High School.
