Orioles star Adam Jones buys Cal Ripken Jr.'s former home, per report

Orioles center fielder Adam Jones will soon put his signature on a new contract, one that will allow him to purchase the home formerly belonging to Hall of Famer Cal Ripken.

The mansion and 25-acre estate where Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame shortstop Cal Ripken Jr. once lived will soon become another Bird's house.

According to The Athletic, Orioles center fielder Adam Jones -- who already has a number of real estate holdings in his portfolio -- is the new owner of the 8,545 square-foot Reisterstown, Md., home after submitting the high bid at an auction Saturday.

The deal is scheduled to close June 11.

Ripken originally put the house on the market for $12.5 million in 2016 after he and his ex-wife Kelly finalized their divorce. The price was reduced to $9.7 million last year.

The home has six bedrooms, 10 full bathrooms, a home theater, a gourmet kitchen -- and for the sports fan, an indoor basketball court, a pool, a gym, batting cages and a baseball field. (The Washington Post has more pictures.)

The final sale price has not been revealed, but Daniel DeCaro of DeCaro Auctions told mansionglobal.com the house was “the highest selling home in Baltimore County this year,” topping a $2.825 million mansion in March.

Jones, 32, is in the last year of a six-year, $85.5 million contract. However, The Athletic reports he bought the home as an investment, not because he plans on re-signing with the Orioles.
