Alex Rodriguez's 'nephew' held captive after Lamborghini deal goes bad

Two men were arrested after they allegedly held a nephew of former slugger Alex Rodriguez for ransom Wednesday night, New York police confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. 

Norberto Susini was held hostage at a New York hotel after a deal to sell a $600,000 Lamborghini went awry. The details were first reported by the New York Post on Thursday.

NYPD spokesperson Sophia T. Mason told USA TODAY Sports that Lamin Vucetovic, 33, and Anthony Gilkes, 30, were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment.

Susini, 29, attended Odessa (Texas) College and participated in rookie ball for the Seattle Mariners in 2011. He then spent five seasons playing for various independent league teams (2012-2016) and played in the Dominican Republic and Mexico last year.

According to the New York Post, Susini attempted to sell the the Lamborghini and met Vucetovic and Gilkes at the Marriott Marquis to discuss the sale. Vucetovic, who apparently had second thoughts about the purchase, demanded his deposit back.

When Susini  refused, Vucetovic and Gilkes then held Susini captive as they reached out to associates to demand a $35,000 ransom. The New York Post reported that Susini’s business partners alerted police. 

Mason, the police spokesperson, told USA TODAY Sports that Rodriguez’s name did not appear in any of the documents related to the arrest as of Thursday afternoon.
