7 more women file lawsuit against MSU, USA Gymnastics over Larry Nassar's sexual abuse

Seven more women have filed a civil lawsuit alleging sexual abuse at the hands of former Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.

EAST LANSING - Seven more women have filed a civil lawsuit alleging sexual abuse at the hands of former Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.

The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court on Wednesday, alleges the plaintiffs are among the hundreds of women and girls who were sexually assaulted by Nassar under the guise of medical treatment. Their lawsuit adds to the more than 260 people suing MSU, USAG and others for failing to prevent Nassar’s abuses.

The lawsuit names as defendants MSU, its Board of Trustees, Nassar, USAG, and several current and former MSU employees, including former College of Osteopathic Medicine Dean William Strampel and former MSU gymnastics coach Kathie Klages.The majority of the woman in the latest lawsuit were abused as minors, according to the complaint.

"Defendant Nassar used his position of trust and confidence in an abusive manner causing Plaintiffs to suffer a variety of injuries including shock, humiliation, emotional distress and related physical manifestations thereof, embarrassment, loss of self-esteem, disgrace, and loss of enjoyment of life," according to the complaint. 

Nassar, 54, is serving a 60-year sentence on federal child pornography charges and faces 40 more years behind bars in Michigan for 10 sexual assault convictions once his federal sentence is served.

MSU fired Nassar in September of 2016. The state of Michigan permanently revoked his medical license earlier this year.
