MERIDIAN TWP. - Police searched two school buildings in Okemos on Tuesday in response to bomb threats received within an hour of each other.

Nothing suspicious was found during the searches at Okemos High School and Nexus Academy, and police were investigating whether the two threats were related.

Ingham County Sheriff's deputies were responding to a bomb threat at Okemos High to assist Meridian Township police about 1:30 p.m. when they were rerouted to the academy for another threat, Ingham County Sheriff's Captain Greg Harris said.

Students at Nexus were moved to a safe place before the building was searched by a K-9 team, Harris said.

A specific threat was called into the 911 center, and detectives were trying to determine the source, he said.

The threat involving Okemos High came in shortly before 12:40 p.m., Meridian Township police said in a Facebook posting. Students sheltered in place while officers with canines swept the building for explosives.

The search was finished about 2:30 p.m., and students were released at their usual 2:35 p.m.dismissal time, the statement said.
